We built the IELTS prep we wished we had.

Katya has spent 12+ years teaching English and helping students pass their exams. Dmitrii is a software engineer who moved to Canada and had to pass IELTS himself. Band9 is what happens when a teacher's expertise meets an engineer's obsession with getting the details right.

Why Band9

When we moved to Canada as newcomers, IELTS was one of the first big hurdles we had to clear ourselves. We quickly ran into the same problem a lot of test-takers face: there's no shortage of generic practice apps, but very few resources that actually help you get precise about where your score is being lost.

Most prep material throws you straight into a full mock test. It feels productive, but it's a slow way to improve — you're getting feedback on everything at once, which makes it hard to tell whether you're weak at True/False/Not Given, or at Matching Information, or just ran out of time.

So we built Band9 around a different idea: master one question type at a time. Practice True/False/Not Given until it stops tripping you up. Then Matching Information. Then Short Answer. Each skill gets isolated, drilled, and measured — before you ever combine them into a full mock test under real exam conditions. It's the same principle a chess player uses to train tactics before playing a full game, or a musician uses scales before a piece. When you finally sit a mock test, you're not discovering your weaknesses for the first time — you're confirming your strengths.

Katya

Katya is a CELTA-certified English teacher with over 12 years of experience — in language schools, in Canadian classrooms, and in one-on-one lessons with students preparing for IELTS, CELPIP, and life in a new country. She's the reason Band9's content isn't just "IELTS-shaped" — it's built on what actually moves a real student's band score.

Dmitrii

Dmitrii is a front-end engineer with 6+ years of experience building web products at companies including Electronic Arts and inDrive, where he led frontend architecture for products used across 45 countries. Band9 is self-built, end-to-end — from the content pipeline to the last pixel — because getting the details right is kind of the whole point of an app built for IELTS perfectionists.
